Today’s Money Mentality is 456 Words, a 3 min Read. ENJOY!!
Recently, I've been traveling a lot for work and for the holidays. My usual routine has been completely messed up.
I haven't had a whole 5 day workout week in 3 weeks.
I haven't had a full 5-day video upload for TikTok, IG, or YouTube.
I've missed a couple of weeks on Podcast and YouTube uploads.
I've eaten extremely unhealthy foods (not complaining)
My sleep schedule is all the way out of wack
But you know what? It's okay
Why?
Big Picture I am moving in the right direction for every one of these things. I have built systems that enable me to accomplish each of these goals on a regular basis with an understanding that there are times when I will miss things. But as long as I am moving in the right direction and improving, I will be fine.
Simon Sinek, my favorite leadership writer, talks about Infinite vs Finite games. He says:
“Better” suggests a journey of constant improvement and makes us feel like we are being invited to contribute our talents and energies to make progress in that journey. “Better,” in the Infinite Game, is better than “best.”
I know that although the last few weeks have been bad in terms of content creation, health, etc. The core structure of my life is still in place to allow me to get back on track once I am back in my normal day-to-day.
It is the same thing for my money. Historically, November and December are notorious for blowing a hole in any plan or budget I have. No matter how much I plan and save up for it, there are inevitably unexpected expenses that I incur during these months.
In the past, I would lament and freak out about not being able to save as much or spending a bit too much. But this year, I have chosen and actively choosing a different state of mind. I am choosing to focus on the Big Picture rather than the minor details as much.
My 401(k), IRA, and HSA Investments Continue to be automated
Emergency Fund is still in place and more money continues to be added
Bills are paid automatically
Credit cards are paid in full automatically
With that core in place, I am free to overspend during the Christmas period. I may not save towards things like Travel, House Fixes, Wedding, or invest as much in stocks but that's fine. I can pick all those things back up later.
So go on and overspend as you celebrate the jolly season. Just ensure the core of your financial life is in place.
Remember GENEROSITY > greed
God bless Each and Everyone of y’all
